SWINE FLU - Precautions, Preventions

Precautions Against Swine Flu

Washing your hands: Infection can be caused by touching a surface contaminated with flu viruses, therefore a thorough and frequent hand washing is the best way to prevent many common infections by using soap and water or an alcohol-based cleanser;

Avoiding crowds whenever possible during flu season, as the flu spreads easily wherever people congregate, such as in child care centers, schools, office buildings, auditoriums and public transportation

Airborne virus prevention - Masks may be of benefit in "crowded settings" or for people who are in "close contact" with infected persons, defined as 1 meter or less by the World Health Organization...

When you cough and sneeze, cover your mouth and nose. Wash your hands afterwards.

Avoid being near others who might be sick.

Last but not the least........Stay home if you are sick, to avoid affecting others.

Preventions

Eating right and getting enough sleep: Poor diet and sleep habits lowers immunity and makes persons more vulnerable to infections. They recommend a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and enough protein. Adults do best on seven to eight hours of sleep a night, while older children and teens need nine to ten hours; This may not prevent Infection but may help to improve your immunity....

Regular exercise: Cardiovascular exercises, such as walking, biking, and other aerobics, can boost the immune system. While it won't prevent infection, individuals may have less severe symptoms and recover more quickly.
